is a municipality in the county of Nordland, Norway.

Bø was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt).

The name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old farm Boy (Norse "Bœr"), since the first church was built there. The name is identical with the word "bœr", 'farm', and is a cognate with the Dutch "boer", which means "farmer".

Population

The municipality has sustained a steady decline in population since the 1950s when 6122 people lived in Bø.
