Sebastian Roberts

Major-General Sir Sebastian John Lechmere Roberts, KCVO, OBE, has been the Senior Army Representative at the Royal College of Defence Studies since June 2007 [http://www.army.mod.uk/servingsoldier/senior_appts/announcements.htm]

He was born in 1954, and educated at Ampleforth College, and Balliol College, Oxford. He was commissioned into the Irish Guards in 1977 and went on to become commanding officer of the 1st Battalion the Irish Guards. He was Major-General Commanding the Household Division and General Officer Commanding London District from 2003 to 2007. General Roberts has served around the world and has campaign medals for Northern Ireland and Rhodesia as well as the 2002 Golden Jubilee Medal.

He is the author of "Soldering: The Military Covenant" (1998); and was appointed an OBE in 1993.

On March 17, 2008, he took up appointment as colonel of the Irish Guards. His two sons are currently serving in Iraq with the Irish Guards.

He was created KCVO on 19th July, 2007 following an audience with The Queen at Buckingham Palace, on relinquishing his appointment commanding the Household Division.
