The district lies on the Krøderfjord in
Hallingdal , and borders on the municipalities ofRingerike ,Flå ,Sigdal andModum .The civic centre,
Noresund , is situated on the east side of lake Krøderen. In the south end of the same lake lies the other centre in Krødsherad; Krøderen. TheNorefjell alpine skiing resort located in Krødsherad was host to thedownhill andgiant slalom competitions of the 1952 Olympic Winter Games.The name
The Norse form of the name was "Krœðisherað". The first element is the genitive case of the name of the lake Krøderen, the last element is "herað" n 'district'. (See also the names
Kvinnherad andSauherad .) The meaning of the name "Krœðir" is unknown.Until 1918 the name was written "Krødsherred".
