Just Jeans was first founded in 1970 by the Kimberly Family. The first store was opened on Chapel Street, Prahran. The idea of selling jeans stacked on shelves was new to the market, but proved to be popular. In 1993 when around 200 Just Jeans stores had been opened the company acquired Jay Jays. Following this Jacqui-E, Peter Alexander, Portmans, Dotti and Smiggle were acquired in 1994, 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2007, respectively. Now branded under the name, The Just Group, the company continues to drive and excel Australasia's retail market. The Just Group is currently owned and operated by Kimbyr Investments Ltd.
Criticism
Just Jeans became an unpopular brand amongst many gay and lesbian consumers when it was accused of "corporate censorship" by activists. The controversy was sparked by anti-gay religious group The Salt Shakers, who began lobbying companies that advertised during the lesbian drama series
The L Word , at the time screening onChannel Seven . Just Jeans was one of five organisations that pulled its advertising. The company did not provide an official reason for the decision. [http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/04/21/1082530232470.html]External links
