Steve Tannen

Steve Tannen

Steve Tannen is an American songwriter and performer. He was born in New York City, but grew up in Australia and Canada in addition to New York. He is the grandson of magician Louis Tannen. Steve Tannen started performing at an early age and learned music at home. He developed a personal mix of folk and rock while working odd jobs around the U.S. for several years.

Steve returned to New York and, with the help from some musicians, including former Suzanne Vega guitarist Jon Gordon, started a rock and roll project. This turned into his debut album Big Señorita. It was chosen as one of Performing Songwriter Magazine’s Top 12 Independent Releases of 2001. After the release he started touring nationally and winning national and international awards, including the Grand Prize in the USA Songwriting Competition.

His second solo CD “Stopped at a Green Light” was released in September 2003.

Other Projects

Steve is also a member of two bands: The Tannen Brothers, where he plays with his brother Greg Tannen, and The Weepies, with his wife Deb Talan. Happiness is the debut CD from The Weepies and it features Jim Henry on the mandolin and guitar, Jeff Berlin on drums, and Richard Gates on the bass.
