Steve Tannen is an American songwriter and performer. He was born in
New York City , but grew up inAustralia andCanada in addition to New York. He is the grandson of magicianLouis Tannen . Steve Tannen started performing at an early age and learned music at home. He developed a personal mix of folk and rock while working odd jobs around the U.S. for several years.Steve returned to New York and, with the help from some musicians, including former
Suzanne Vega guitaristJon Gordon , started a rock and roll project. This turned into his debut albumBig Señorita . It was chosen as one ofPerforming Songwriter Magazine ’s Top 12 Independent Releases of 2001. After the release he started touring nationally and winning national and international awards, including the Grand Prize in theUSA Songwriting Competition .His second solo CD “
Stopped at a Green Light ” was released inSeptember 2003 .Other Projects
Steve is also a member of two bands: The
Tannen Brothers , where he plays with his brotherGreg Tannen , andThe Weepies , with his wifeDeb Talan .Happiness is the debut CD from The Weepies and it features Jim Henry on the mandolin and guitar,Jeff Berlin on drums, andRichard Gates on the bass.External links
