Nicola Charles (born 22 December 1969 in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, England) is an actress, primarily known for her role in Australian soap opera, Neighbours.

Career

Charles trained as an actress and dancer at the Gemini Drama School and started her career in adverts, having been chosen to promote the soft drink, Sprite. She continued in adverts and modelling work for several years until moving to Australia in the mid 90s with then boyfriend, Scott Michaelson.[2] It was there that she landed her first acting role. Having turned up at Grundy Television studios auditioning for game show The Price is Right, Charles was noticed by casting director Jan Russ and invited to read for a part on Neighbours.[3] She played Sarah Beaumont on the show for almost three years, from 1996 to 1999. Her profile soared at this point in her career. In the UK, she was included in FHM's list of the 100 sexiest women in 1998 and again in 1999.

In 2001, Charles finished recording an album called Listening in Color which was mixed by prominent sound engineer, Chris Lord-Alge. However the album was never officially released and Charles was subsequently let go by the UK division of Mushroom Records.

Recent work has included a supporting role in comedy film For Christ's Sake, which also features Armin Shimerman and William Morgan Sheppard. Until 2010, Charles was also producer at Marathon Pictures, a film company co-founded with her ex-husband.

Personal life

Charles has been married twice. First in March 1993 to kickboxing champion Sean Cochrane.[2][4] This relationship soon broke up however and it was not until the 18 August 2003 that she married again, this time to actor Jason Barry. Charles and Barry have two daughters, Freya[5] and Nova.[6] They split in 2008, and Charles is currently engaged to Los Angeles based DJ, Mark Tabberner. She and Mark have a son, Archie.[6]
