The Queens Community Board 1 is a local advisory group in
New York City , encompassing the neighborhoods of Astoria,Old Astoria , Long Island City,Queensbridge , Ditmars, Ravenswood, Steinway,Garden Bay , and Woodside, in the Borough ofQueens . Demographics
As of the
United States Census, 2000 , the Community Board has a population of 211,220 up from 188,549 in the 1990 and 185,198 in 1980.Of them (as of 2000), 88,606 (41.9%) are White non Hispanic, 21,581 (10.2%) are
African-American , 27,399 (13.0%) Asian or Pacific Islander, 475 (0.2%) American Indian or Native Alskan, 3,099 (1.5%) of some other race, 12,368 (5.9%) of two or more race, 57,692 (27.3%) of Hispanic origins.23.4% of the population benefit from public assistance as of 2004, up from 13.2% in 2000.
Geography
The land area is 3,702.0 acres, or 5.8 square miles.
