The Tiger was a ship that was torpedoed on April 1, 1942, off the coast of Virginia. It sank as a result and its remains have been located as a shipwreck.
SS Tiger----------------------2 Mast 1 Stack 410 x 56 ft. 5,992 ton American Socony-Vacuum Oil Co. Tanker completed 1917 San Francisco CA, torpedoed 4/1/1942 carrying 64,321 barrels of Navy fuel oil, by German WWII sub U-754, hit stbd. side aft of amidships #5 tank, taken in tow & sank next day in 55 ft. wtr. in Cheasapeake Bay, 8.2 miles east of Sandbridge Beach, lies on stbd. side, quite broken up, 58 ft. wtr. i life lost. 27101.6/41188.8 36-50N/75-49W sold 1954 for breaking up.
