The Sharp AnglesWebsite Official Crushed Butler site Notable instruments Fender Telecaster, Premier Drums, Hofner Bass Tiger was a protopunk[1]group formed in 1971 by Jesse Hector (guitar), Alan Butler (bass) and Darryl Read (drums). Initially called Crushed Butler the band reformed as Tiger in an attempt to get a recording deal as Crushed Butler were turned down by every record company in London, mainly because of their aggressive attitude and originality.[2]
Tiger tried to pretend they were commercial; but the recording industry didn't go for it; even though their single High School Dropout had commercial possibilities and they were being managed by Neil Christian. The record companies knew that if they let them in, it would change the scene: therefore blow off their main artists on their current rosters. The scene did change six years later when the Sex Pistols did what Crushed Butler and Tiger had done originally six years before.[3]
In 1977, Jesse Hector and Alan Butler found success with punk band The Gorillas. Darryl Read continued his acting career and became a solo singer and guitarist.
Alan Butler died following a fall from a horse in 1980.
