Sarah R. Lotfi (b. August 20, 1988) is a young filmmaker and owner of White Cloud Films LLC most well-known for her WWII epic The Last Bogatyr(2009),[1] a finalist in consideration for the 37th Student Academy Awards.[2]
White Cloud Films is an LLC production company, specializing in storyboards, scriptwriting, directing and costume design. Lotfi formed White Cloud at the age of 16,[3] while still in highschool during production of her first historical epic To Be Queen (2005), Lotfi's first cinematic attempt to adapt the love-story of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. In 2008 Lotfi revised the story into a surreal short Tudor Rose which went on to play at CineYouth International Film Festival[4]
Daughter of an Iranian immigrant and Chinese-American, Lotfi favors cinematic adaptions that examine multi-cultural influences. The Last Bogatyr(2009) examines the Russian identity during the 1940s, while Lotfi's animation La Mutacion de Fortune (2010) a poetic bio-pic of 15th century philosopher Christine de Pizan.
In 2008, Lotfi was awarded The Independent Scholar Award by the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for the production of Chroma: Planet of Color (2009) a fantastic science fiction exploring the meanings of color and confronting social discrimination against the disability culture. In 2010 Sarah participated in the "National College TV Internship Program" through the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences working on the set of HBO Films Cinema Verite (2012).
Lotfi has produced and directed over a dozen films ranging from spy, parody, drama, to fantasy. She has worked freelance as an assistant director, storyboard artist, and seamstress with a variety of professionals in her community, including Pete Schuermann (HAZE:The Documentary).
Her new short Waking Eyes explores Third Cinema through the perspective of a woman in a coma as she drifts through different demensions out of time.
