Oxxio is a Dutch utility that serves about 800,000 customers for electricity and natural gas. In the Dutch market, Oxxio is the fourth largest supplier and the largest of the companies that entered the market since liberalisation of the energy market began in 2000. In 2005 British Centrica bought Oxxio. Oxxio is headquartered in Hilversum. In 2009, Centrica announced to look for a new owner for Oxxio in order to realize future plans for Oxxio. In March 2011, Oxxio found a new owner: Eneco. Oxxio will remain an independently operating company, working from its offices in Hilversum. For customers and employees nothing has changed. The transaction has now been approved by the NMa (Netherlands Competition Authority). The sale has been expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2011.
