Owensboro Medical Health System Hospital

Owensboro Medical Health System (also known as OMHS) is a 427 bed medical facility in Owensboro, Kentucky. Prior to the mid 1990s, it was known as "Owensboro Daviess County Hospital" until it merged with the nearby and much smaller Mercy Hospital. The hospital was renamed "Owensboro Mercy Health System" for the next few years until it again changed its name to the current one. A new Owensboro Medical Health System hospital is currently under construction at the northeast outskirts of Owensboro, scheduled to be completed and open in 2013.

Owensboro Medical Health System serves an 11-county region in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The hospital received the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award in 2009 , placing it among the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for quality. OMHS is a full-service hospital, employing a workforce of over 3,100. In addition to hospital and rehabilitation services, OMHS includes the HealthPark – a medical-based fitness center – home health services, a wound healing center, three outpatient diagnostic centers, the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center and the McAuley Clinic, which provides healthcare for the uninsured. OMHS also operates Convenient Care, Pennyrile Pulmonary Critical Care and Western Kentucky Rheumatology Center , Owensboro ; and MultiCare in Madisonville , Ohio County (downtown Beaver Dam) and Tell City (IN).

Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center

In July 2005, OMHS opened the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center. OMHS will introduce MammoSite breast treatment.

The cancer center contains an 8,000-square-foot (740 m2) space set aside for cancer research slated to open in 2006, operated by the University of Louisville's James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

OMHS Heart Center

OMHS partners with Louisville's Jewish Hospital, world-renowned for cardiovascular services. The OMHS Heart Center partnership provides area residents with access to advance heart care, including the latest technology, proven methods and research all customized for Owensboro by Jewish Hospital.
