Over-the-air has several meanings, depending on context.

  • Generally, over-the-air is synonymous for wireless.
  • Specifically, over-the-air can have the following meanings or is used in the following contexts:
    • over-the-air programming, a general term for a set of methods which allows wireless programming of devices such as mobile phones and set-top boxes,
    • OTA bitmap, a proprietary specification for black and white images for mobile phones,
    • terrestrial television, which is a kind of broadcast television sent over-the-air that uses a tuner (television) and television antenna.
    • The Over the Air mobile hack day and developer conference series in London.
