footnotes =Frýdlant, sometimes cited also as Frýdlant v Čechách (IPA2|ˈfri:dlant ˈftʃɛxa:x; German: "Friedland im Isergebirge") is a town in the
Liberec Region of theCzech Republic . It has approximately 7,500 inhabitants and lies on the outskirts of theJizera Mountains . It is the birthplace of ski jumperAntonín Hájek .History
The region around Frýdlant was once land belonging to the bishops of
Meißen at Seidenberg (Zawidów ). By1278 , Friedland-Seidenberg's effective control had ended as the castle and town were controlled by the House ofBieberstein . From1551 until1620 Frýdlant was administered by the House ofRedern . Because Redern opposed theHabsburg s during theCounter-Reformation , their lands were revoked in 1620 during theThirty Years Wars by Emperor Ferdinand II; Frýdlant was given toAlbrecht von Wallenstein , who titled himself Duke of Friedland. The nominal sovereignty of Friedland-Seidenberg was also revoked at this time. In 1875, a railway lineLiberec - Frýdlant - Seidenberg (Zawidów ) was put into operation. Lines to Friedberg (Mirsk ) and to Zittau followed soon.Castle
In the 13th century the castle was held by the Ronovci House. Frýdlant was first mentioned in 1278. Then Bohemian king
Přemysl Otakar II removed the county from the Ronovci and gave it to Rulek of Bieberstein. Nowadays the castle consists of a gothic castle with a high tower and a Renaissance chateau. A museum opened for public was installed in the castle as early as 1801. Nowadays this castle belongs to most visited castles in theCzech Republic .Districts
