Oryx (ancient city)

Oryx (Όρυξ) or Oryxis (Ὄρυξις) was an ancient city in Arcadia.

Oryx was mentioned by Pausanias which he passed into the aras. Located between the Skiathis (Σκίαθης) mountains and the banks of Ladon. It was 5 stadia (1 km) from Caryae and founded much closer to the city state of Alous. In the Ladon area fell to the abyss, the Arcadians believed that the abyss were fallen and that is sprang by Hercules (Heracles)[1].

Today, the location of the ancient city is believed to be located near Dafni southwest of Kalavryta and the border of the modern Achaia-Arcadia prefecture where it founded the rubbles of two cities. [2]
