Orion Metcalf Barber

Orion Metcalf Barber (July 13, 1857 – March 28, 1930) was a Vermont state politician and a judge of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals.

Barber received an LL.B. from Albany Law School in 1882. He was a state's attorney for Bennington County, Vermont, from 1886 to 1887. He served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 1892 to 1894, and in the Vermont State Senate in 1894, leaving to become the state railroad commissioner from 1894 to 1896. He was the state auditor from 1898 to 1902, and chairman of the Special Tax Commission from 1906 to 1908, and of the Special Commission to Prepare and Publish Digest of Vermont Reports in 1909.

Nominated by President William Howard Taft to the U.S. Court of Customs Appeals, Barber received his commission on March 30, 1910. He retired from active service on September 30, 1928, and continued in senior status until his death, in 1930.
