Omar Samhan (born November 3, 1988) is an American professional basketball center for the Žalgiris Kaunas of the Euroleague. Formerly, Samhan played college basketball for the St. Mary's Gaels, where he was a 2010 All-American honorable mention,[1] and played for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA's summer league. Samhan attended San Ramon Valley High School.

College career

Samhan is a former college basketball player for the St. Mary's Gaels.[1] He played center for the team, and, after scoring 61 points in two NCAA tournament victories,[1] including 32 points in a win over Villanova,[2] he had been called the "dominant player/personality" of the opening rounds of the 2010 tournament.[3] Samhan was named to the 2010 All-American list as an Honorable mention as a result for his efforts in the regular season and the tournament.

Professional career

Samhan played for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Summer League in 2010 but did not make the final roster.[4] Samhan instead signed with Žalgiris Kaunas for 2010–2012 and has an option to prolong the contract for one more year.[5]

Other

At Saint Mary's, Samhan was a communications major and stated that he wishes to become a broadcaster after he concludes his basketball career.[2]
