Early Life & Biography
Oliver Jung (born 1972) was born in Heidelberg, Germany and grew up in Hockenheim in southern Germany. He moved to Karlsruhe in order to pursue a degree in computer science at Technische Universität Karlsruhe (University of Karlsruhe).[2]
Career
During his studies in Karlsruhe he got interested in internet technologies and finally founded his own internet IT services company Entory AG.[2] In 2001, Deutsche Boerse Group, the largest operator of stock exchanges in Germany, decided to acquire Entory[3] in a friendly acquisition when it had approx. EUR100 million in annual revenues.[4]
Jung acted in a number of companies as a consultant, founder and later CEO or board member before handing the project over to an employed management team. Some of his private equity investments in seed and early-stage Internet and mobile companies were investments in Adconion Media Group,[5] e-Puls.pl,[6] Imagekind.com,[6] Xing,[6] Smava.de,[6] StudiVZ Ltd. (sold to Holtzbrinck),[6] Webnews.de,[6] Netmoms.de,[6] Nimbuzz.com,[6] Private Sale GmbH,[6] Adscale.de,[6] be2.com,[6] seatwave.com,[6] and Lokalisten GmbH.[6]
Oliver was involved in Xing, a social network for business people in Germany, though he is still involved in StudiVZ, a Facebook-like competitor for students in Germany Brands4Friends [7]: the leading shopping club in Germany and most popular social network Facebook.[8] Along with Klaus Hommels, Oliver also heads Global Square AG:[9] an international operator of shopping clubs such as Brandsclub in Brazil, Markafoni in Turkey, KupiVIP in Russia, Fashion-and-you in India, BrandsExclusive in Australia, Cobone in UAE and FashionFriends in Switzerland, Clickon in Brazil, DealsAndYou in India, Spreets in Australia and Grupfoni in Turkey.[10]
