History
Onazi was discovered by My People FC, a Nigerian football club set up by T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations in Lagos, to help talented footballers. After impressive performances with My People FC, Onazi was among three players sponsored to hone their skills in Sweden.[1] An alert midfielder who also boasts of an impressive scoring rate, Onazi was joint top scorer at the 'Internet Bay Cup' in Sweden with nine goals.[2] He was subsequently chosen to represent his country at U-17 level with the Golden Eaglets.
International career
Onazi played for the Nigeria U-17 team at 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.[3] Nigeria narrowly lost in the final to Switzerland, and Onazi picked up a silver medal and fair play award along with his colleagues, although his performances in the tournament were hampered by an injury in the first match against Germany.
Onazi was subsequently chosen to represent the Nigeria U-20 team alongside the majority of his colleagues from the U-17 team.[4] His first goal for the Flying Eagles came in their 7-0 routing of Kenya in a four nation tournament in Egypt, May 2010.[5]
Foreign Interest
Onazi and his My People FC teammate Sani Emmanuel are said to have attracted interest from numerous foreign clubs, including the likes of Premiership giants Chelsea and Tottenham, whom they have reportedly had trials with.[6] He has also had trials with Greek giants Panathinaikos F.C. [7]
