Oban Saints A.F.C.

Oban Saints Amateur Football Club are a football club from the town of Oban, in the Lorne district of Argyll in Scotland. Formed in 1960 they currently play in the Scottish Amateur Football League. Strip (uniform) colours are gold and navy and home matches are played at either Mossfield Stadium or Glencruitten Park in the town.

They were formed by locals who were unable to get a regular game with any of the football clubs then playing in the local "Oban and District Football League". In 1961 they joined that competition and remained there for the next 15 years, achieving a good degree of success, winning the league on eight occasions, as well as winning a number of other tournaments as well.

By the mid 1970s the Oban and District League was in a bit of decline, and in 1975 Oban Saints did well in the Scottish Amateur Cup, reaching the last sixteen (the stage before the quarter finals of the tournament). This helped cement a growing reputation as a strong club at amateur level, and in 1976 they joined the Scottish Amateur Football League (SAFL), a competition a good bit stronger than the local Oban and District League.

They started life in Division Seven of the SAFL, but by the 1990s had reached the top division of that league, winning the Premier Division One title in 1998 and 2002.

They annually host two tournaments. The Argyll and Bute Tournament, held every August, is open to all teams from that area who compete in the SAFL. Oban Saints have won the competition on more occasions than any other club. They also play host to the Keyline Challenge Cup Tournament each July, which has been successful in attracting several Scottish Football League and Highland Football League clubs to take part.
