The OTs-38 Stechkin is a 5-shot, double-action revolver chambered in the silent 7.62x41.5mm SP-4 cartridge.^[1] The cartridge employs a captive piston so there is no flash or loud report upon discharge.^[2] As the cartridge is rimless, the cylinder is fed via full moon clips.

The revolver features a number of unusual features. The barrel is mounted below the axis pin, the cylinder pivots out to the right, and it features a manual safety catch. The OTs-38 also features an integral laser sight that is powered by 3xD-0.03D batteries.^[3]
