Vojvoda Novak Grebostrek Allegiance Serbian Kingdom
Years of service 1312 Rank Veliki Vojvoda (Duke) Religion Serbian Orthodox Christianity Novak Grebostrek (fl. 1312) was a Serbian veliki vojvoda (military commander) under the Serbian Kingdom of Stefan Uroš II Milutin (r. 1282–1321). Stefan Milutin sent an army under the command of Novak to aid the Byzantine Emperor in the defense of his lands against the stronger Ottoman Turks.[1] The Battle of Gallipoli (1312) ended in a victory of the Serbs who destroyed the Ottomans.[2] Serbia was given the town of Kucovo by Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos. The victories of Novak have been recorded in papers of Church of St. George, Staro Nagoričane.[3]
