- Nitrolingual pumpspray
-
Nitrolingual pumpspray is a piece of medical equipment used by angina patients. It contains the active ingredient glyceryl trinitrate, a nitrate. It has the effect of helping the heart work more easily.
The medicine is sprayed under the tongue. As this area of the mouth has a large supply of blood vessels, the medicine can be rapidly absorbed. Taken in this way glyceryl trinitrate can give rapid relief from the pain of an angina attack. Another use of the spray is to prevent an anticipated attack, such as before exercise or physical effort, expected emotional stress or exposure to cold conditions.
