He continued with the construction of the new Castillo de San Marcos, Manuel de Cendoya started. Under his rule, the reconstruction of the castle of San Marcos was quick but not as much as he expected, because the Native Americans who built the castle did not know their production techniques and they made many mistakes in the construction which involved redoing over and over again, the areas in which they had failed. In addition, epidemics caused by poor hygiene which killed many of them and the excess weight of the loads and little knowledge to manipulate him them caused dislocations in the bones, not counting the towers that falling in the works. Lack of funds remained the biggest problem for construction. It sent thousands of dollars that basically served for food and wages. Nicholas II Ponce de Leon stepped down as governor of Florida in 1674 with the appointment of Pablo de Hita y Salazar as official governor of Florida.[1]
