Introduction

Nexus’ main office is located in Albert Square, Manchester having a prime position over-looking Manchester’s Town Hall. It also has an office based in Knutsford which mainly deals with private client matters.

The firm is recognised by Legal 500 as a tier 4 firm in relation to the areas of insolvency, employment, intellectual property, sport and media.[1]

Nexus Solicitors also has a sister firm, Westwood Solicitors. Westwood Solicitors are specialist personal injury lawyers and are located at the same premises.

History of the firm

Nexus Solicitors was founded in 2000. The 5 founding partners of the firm were Tony Brook and Christopher Pugh, previously litigators at Berrymans Lace Mawer; Jamie Lloyd and Steve Isherwood, previously corporate practitioners at Beachcroft Wansbroughs; and Desmond O'Driscoll previously from Manchester firm Turner Parkinson. The aim was to create a small but full-service firm acting for owner-managed businesses across the North West.[2]

Four of the founding partners remain at Nexus, Isherwood having departed in 2004.

In 2005 Nexus’ turnover grew from £1.9 million to £2.44 million, an increase of 28 percent.[3]

In 2006 it was reported the firm’s annual turnover was circa £2.7 million and was continuing to grow.[2]

In June 2007, Nexus doubled the size of its office space in Albert Square in order to accommodate growing staff numbers.[4]

In November 2007, Nexus recruited the Hill Dickinson Corporate and Insolvency restructing team led by Andrew Tonge.[4]

Nexus opened its Knutsford office in 2008, which is headed up by Graham Walker, a former partner at Horwich Farrelly. Walker is best known for a ground-breaking divorce case in 2001 which established the principle that, in long-standing marriages, the partner’s business interests as well as their personal finances, should be taken into account in determining settlements.[5]

Growth in the last 10 years has seen the firm triple in size with a headcount of over 40 including 9 partners.

Nexus continues to recruit and appointed Jessica Enderby head of non-contentious IP in September 2009.[6]
