Overview

Nexus Audio is a Recording Studio located in East Oakland, CA. It was established in October 2004 by Chris Paxton, who presently owns, manages, and is the head engineer. It is a seven room facility offering tracking, mixing and mastering for all types of project. Since opening, Nexus has grown in popularity as one of the best recording facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area urban music scene, as well as rock, and other genres of music. Notable recording acts include Kreayshawn, Mistah F.A.B, Spice 1, Turf Talk, Clyde Carson and Shock G.

Building History

  • Building built early 1920s
  • Early 1970s - existed as a recording studio since the early 1970s. The studio hosted many well known local, and national acts such as Carlos Santana, Primus for recording and rehearsals. It's central location to the Bay Area has always made it a desirable destination for artists. It's unique floor plan and relaxed atmosphere has changed little over the years, and while it is fitted with modern equipment, it provides an organic vibe that attracts artists of all kinds. The studio is rarely quiet and there is always a long waiting list to get into the facility since it is only 12 rooms and the artist that get in, stay here.
  • 1996-2000 Studio was called Microdot Recording Studio under the ownership of Engineer Jerry Smith.

Nexus Audio Facility History

  • October 2004 - Chris Paxton purchases Microdot Studio, which includes a 20'x24'live room, 5'x5'isolated vocal booth
  • June 2005 Additional three rooms added serving as a Control Room, Machine room and Iso Booth
  • July 2008 - Live Room is outfitted with new hardwood floor.
  • April 2009 - Digital Audio Workstation upgrade to Pro Tools HD2.
  • October 2010 - Nexus also acquires adjacent rehearsal space for non-recording purposes.
  • November 2010 - Various minor acoustic improvements in main live room and control room. New carpet in Control Room
  • September 2011 - Rehearsal space begins conversion into new Mixing Suite
