- Newton's Nation
-
Newton's Nation is an annual, gravity-fueled, action sports festival. The inaugural Newton"s Nation (originally called Newton's Playground) was held in the summer of 2008 at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, Australia.
History
2008
- Newton's Nation was originally named Newton's Playground and was run by Bathurst Council. The event originated when a downhill skater from New Zealand rang council asking permission to skate down the Mount Panorama Circuit. The first year saw a number of action sports[1] including Downhill classic luge, luge, inline and skate, plus BMX freestyle, Mountain Bike, Wake Boarding, Parkour and a street park included. Grinspoon headlined the music component.[2] The event also became sanctioned by the International Gravity Sports Association.
2009
- Due to limited funding, Bathurst Council broke ties with the event. However the Downhill sports of Luge, Classic Luge, In-line and skateboard did compete. This was organised by the Australian Skateboard Racing Association and still under the name of Newton's Playground.[3]
2010
- Newton's Playground was rebranded into Newton's Nation by Channel Zero.[4] Newton's Nation Unit Trust was formed with the owners of Channel Zero, Popcorn Events and Mojo Events. The main festival ran again from November 26 to 28th with an extended live music line up with headline acts of Bliss n Eso, You am I and Birds of Tokyo. The festival also showcased Buggy Rollin.
