New Prague High School is a public secondary school in New Prague, Minnesota. The school boasts a ninety-eight percent or better graduation rate on average, and ninety percent of graduates attend a post-secondary institution. [2]

Contents

History

The first high school classes in New Prague were held in a K-12 schoolhouse with the first high school class graduating in 1907. A separate high school building was constructed in 1924 at the corner of 1st Avenue NW and Main Street.

Academics

New Prague High School offers over one hundred courses in fourteen different areas of study. There are a variety of required and elective classes for students to choose from. This helps to ensure that students are interested in course topics. To help meet the needs of students of varied abilities, College in the Schools and Advanced Placement classes are offered to the student body.
Independent studies, mentorship, youth service, and extended day programs, are provided for students as well. Courses are delivered using a trimester system with five period school days. [3]

Fine Arts

The New Prague High School offers many various fine arts that students can choose from; some examples would be Band, Choir, Art, Drawing, Photography, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Painting and Contemporary Crafts.

Food and Consumer Sciences

Food and Consumer Sciences teaches about cooking and living on a persons own. Some classes include Foods, Fashion, Independent Living, Interior Design, Family Life, Interpersonal Relationships and Child Development.

World Languages

New Prague High School only teaches two languages at the moment, which happen to be German and Spanish. Both languages are taught up to collage level. The German program allows excelling German students to transfer to Germany to better their German Language skills and learn about German culture.

Language Arts

New Prague High School teaches many Language Arts classes, some of which are mandatory. They include Composition, Business Communications, US Literature, Journalism, Public Speaking, Creative Writing, Introduction to the Theatre, English Literature, Literature Appreciation and Broadcast Communications.

Mathematics

The New Prague High School teaches many various math classes. They include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, AP Statistics, AP Calculus and Integrated I. New Prague requires its students to take at least three years of math, but encourages them to take as many as they want.

Science

The New Prague Science Department has various choices to offer their students. They have Biology, Chemistry, Chemistry in the Community, Fish & Wildlife Studies, Environmental Issues, Inquiry Biology Inside & Outside, Advanced Chemistry, Physics, Wetlands & Field Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Cell Biology and First Responder.

Social Studies

New Prague High School Has a relatively small Social studies department. The class list is Growth of America, Modern America, World Geography, Economics, Post WW II History, Minnesota History, Psychology, Sociology, World History, American Civics and Ethnic Studies.

Physical Education

New Prague only Requires that it's students take three Physical Education Classes. The last list here is Wellness, Fitness for Life, Stress Management, Principle of Sport, Cardio Training, Strength Training, Adv. Strength Training, Team Activities, Lifetime Sports and Winter Activities.

'Technology Education

New Prague has an average Technology Education department, mostly consisting of work-shop like classes. This includes Automotive Mechanics, Beginning Woodworking, Sheet Metal, Small Engines, Welding, Introductory Electronics, Auto Mechanics, Consumer Car Care, Power Sports Vehicle Service, Advanced Woodworking, Architectural Drawing, Mechanical Drawing, Computer Aided Drafting and Construction Trades.

Business Education

Last but not least, New Prague has a Business Ed. Dept. Some of the classes are Webpage Design, Marketing, Management, Computer Education, Electronics, Personal Finance, Introduction to Business, Stock Market and few others.
