History

A need for a professional networking organization, which provides a forum for educators, researchers and scholars to promote, encourage and sustain interests in mathematics/statistics through the networking with mathematicians from Nepal, was realized in 2008. An initial discussion held between young energetic Nepali mathematicians Deepak Basyal and Santosh Bhattarai to form a forum was ended up with the inception of ANMA. In May 8, 2010, a ten members Ad-hoc committee co-ordinated by Durga Jung KC was formed to facilitate the by-laws writing, registration process and establishment of the association. The committee hold an election via telephone conference in January 22, 2011 to form a working committee for 2011-2013. The ANMA formally registered in the office of the secretary of state, Indiana in March 14, 2011.

Objectives

The ANMA aims to serve mathematicians in universities, high school(+2),research institutes and other forms of higher education. The association is formed with the following objectives:

  • to advance research in mathematical sciences in Nepal as well as in the community of Nepali mathematicians in the United States;
  • foster interaction between Nepalese mathematicians and mathematicians of other countries,
  • establish a sense of identity amongst Nepalese mathematicians
  • to provide resources to Nepali mathematicians in Nepal and abroad that foster scholarship and professional growth;
  • as a forum for Nepali mathematicians around the globe to share experiences and techniques that influence teaching of mathematical sciences

Activities

ANMA members are active in research of different branches of mathematical sciences. Seven ANMA members presented their research work in Joint Mathematics Meetings, New Orleans, 2011.[2]

Structure

The governing body of the Association is its executive committee, which is composed of President, two Vice Presidents, General Secretary, Treasurer, and four Members. These posts are nominated and elected by the members in every two years at the general meeting.
