Playing career
Griffiths joined Port Vale from Chester in exchange for £5,000 and Tony Loska in December 1973. He lined up against his old club in the final of the 1977 Debenhams Cup and scored an own goal in a 4–1 defeat. He was a regular for much of his eight seasons with the club until he was given a free transfer in May 1981. He moved on to Crewe Alexandra, Stafford Rangers, Macclesfield Town (as player-coach and later player-manager) and Newcastle Town.[1]
