The National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) is an Indian agency which conducts research on public finance and contributes in the process of policy-making relating to public finance. Located in Delhi, India near the Jawaharlal Nehru University. NIPFP was established in 1976 as an autonomous agency under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The NIPFP also works jointly with the Department of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance to research the effects of past economic policy.
NIPFP is overseen by a governing board comprising a chairman and representatives from the Ministry of Finance (Government of India), Planning Commission of India and Reserve Bank of India. In 2009, C. Rangarajan was acting chairman and M. Govinda Rao was the Director of the Institute.
