Created by law on 25 October 1946 as the Centre national de la cinématographie (National Center of Cinematography), it is currently directed by Éric Garandeau.

- Providing support of the economy of the cinema, audiovisual and multimedia arts
- The promotion and spread of the cinema and audiovisual for the public
