Nathan L. Henry is an American author who lives in Columbus, Ohio, with his wife and several cats.
Henry is the author of the book Good Behavior: A Memoir, published by Bloomsbury in 2010, which received positive reviews from a number of large and small print and web publications.
Good Behavior is a gritty coming of age story, centering on an armed robbery committed by the author at the age of sixteen. The memoir's chapters alternate between the author's experiences in jail and his childhood, full of violent fantasies and actual violence, obsessions with weapons and power and sex, as well as a short stint in a drug rehab center. It also investigates the distorted dynamics of his family, especially his relationship with his father, whose own paranoia had a profound influence on Henry's development. While in jail, his time spent mostly in solitary confinement, Henry discovers literature and art, realizes that there is more to life than crime or the limited expectations that he previously held. The pivotal point in Henry's journey is when he confronts the question of his own identity, in a windowless cell, and has a brief but life-changing experience akin to what Zen Buddhists call Satori; universal awareness.
Henry continues to write, particularly about drug addiction, dysfunctional family/relationship dynamics, and the illusive experience of universal awareness.
