Overview
Naked Eye is a research company based in the United Kingdom that specialises in video ethnography as a means of helping companies and organisations design human-centred products and services, and to develop their communications and behavioural programmes.[1] Ethnography is a form of research that involves observing and describing how people from particular cultural groups respond to different situations in which they find themselves.[2]
History
Founded in 2003, Naked Eye became part of Chime Communications plc in 2008.[3] Chime is the holding company for several public relations, research, advertising and marketing firms[4].
Key People
Naked Eye was founded by Nick Leon, who studied psychology at degree level and gained an MSc in Ergonomics from University College London before starting his career as a user-centred designer. In 2000, he started working as an ethnographer and soon became a passionate advocate of documentary film-making as a means of capturing and understanding people’s lives. To date he has managed a range of public and private sector projects for organisations including GlaxoSmithKline and Unilever[5]. He is a visiting lecturer to MA Design students at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, and has led workshops and presented papers on ethnographic research at international conferences including ESOMAR[6], EPIC[7], the British Healthcare Business Intelligence Association[8] and the Market Research Society.
Awards
Recent awards include the Keith Munro Award for Best Presented Paper at the 2010 British Healthcare Business Intelligence Association conference with co-presenters Jeremy Fazal (AstraZeneca), Brent Hooper (McKinsey & Co) and Nigel Griffiths (Insight Research Group)[9]
