Controversy
Japan Self-Defense Forces Event
There is a critical public reaction about Na Kyung-won's attendance to an event on 50 year anniversary of Japan Self-Defense Forces in the Shilla Hotel in 2004.[2] She later explained that she did not have any background knowledge about this event 7 years ago in 2011.[3]
Lee Myung-bak Post-Presidency Residence Issues
During the October 11th 2011 debate on Korean Broadcasting System, Na Kyung-won kept a low profile of her remark on President Lee Myung-bak's post-presidency residence that was more expensive than the residency of ex-president Roh Mu-hyun, despite that she had criticized Roh's residence as "a town" and cannot recall her own remarks about it.[4] This has particularly angered the left-wing factions of South Korean politics. The Roh Mu-hyun Foundation called her to apologize her statement against her ignorance.[5] She later apologized of the "harsh" remark in the past about Roh.[6]
Money Laundering
She was accused for money laundering through another colleague's banking account when she was a career lawyer.[7]
Hiding the Facts about Her Father's School
Democratic Party politician, Jeon Bong-ju, mentioned how Na's father had been involved in illegal practices of his private school that revolve around Na Kyung-won and she denied this allegations.[8] She was also involved in receiving financial support from his father's private school when she had become a member of the Assembly.[9]
