NK Pomorac is a Croatian football club based in Kostrena, a suburb of Rijeka, a port city lying on the Adriatic Sea. Kostrena is known for its maritime tradition, which is reflected in the club's name, as the word "pomorac" means "mariner" or "seaman" in English.

Founded in 1912, NK Pomorac is one of the oldest football clubs in Croatia. They currently compete in the 2. HNL, Croatian second division. Pomorac had finished the 2009–10 season in second place, but they declined promotion as they were unable to gain a licence required to compete in top level.

History

Since the independence of Croatia in 1992 NK Pomorac played in Croatian Third Football League until the 1995-86 season, when it became champion of the Croatian Third Football League and was promoted to the Croatian Second Football League. In 1995-96 NK Pomorac won the Regional Cup of Croatia and qualified for 1/16 final of Croatian Cup where it played against one of the greatest Croatian clubs, HNK Hajduk Split. In the first match in Kostrena HNK Hajduk Split won 2-0 against NK Pomorac, and on the second match in Split, NK Pomorac has played to a tie against the favorite HNK Hajduk Split 1-1. According to Croatian press reports the level of NK Pomorac's play was equal to that of Hajduk Split.

NK Pomorac played on the Croatian Second Football League from 1996-97 to 2000-01, when it was promoted to the Croatian First Football League (1. HNL). It stayed two seasons on the Croatian First Football League: - 2001-02 and 2002-03. Since 2003 NK Pomorac has played in the Croatian Second Football League and hopes to return again to the Croatian First Football League.

The president of NK Pomorac is Miroslav Uljan who is also the mayor of the town of Kostrena and vice-president of the Croatian Football Federation.
