History

It has existed since at least 1397, when it was mentioned as having its seat in the Wollzeile street in Vienna. The imperial mint was also responsible for making coins out of the silver ransom paid for King Richard I of England.

During the financial crisis of 2008, the mint made brisk sales of the gold bullions Vienna Philharmonic due to savers' concerns.[1]
