7The sixth series of BBC family sitcom My Family originally aired between March 10, 2006, and December 25, 2006. The series was commissioned following consistently high ratings from the previous series. The opening episode, "Bliss For Idiots", re-introduces the six main characters, with the addition of Alfie Butts, played by Rhodri Meilir. All episodes from the sixth series are thirty minutes long, excluding the Christmas special. The series was originally due to contain nine episodes, as per the following seasons, but due to the outcome of two episodes ("Return Of The Living Dad" and "All I Have To Give") being so poor, cast members Robert Lindsay and Zoë Wanamaker refused them to be aired.[1] It is unknown if these episodes still exist, or whether they were destroyed by the production company. The series was once again produced by Rude Boy Productions[2], a company that produces comedies created by Fred Barron.[3] The series was filmed at Pinewood Studios in London, [4] in front of a live audience.[5]

The series was once again given a Friday evening prime-time slot, with most episodes being aired at 8:30pm. The opening episode of the series gained 7.17 million viewers, becoming the second most watched programme of the week.[6]. The sixth series averaged 6.35 million viewers for each episode.
