Mustafa Manwar

Mustafa Manwar (Bengali: মোস্তফা মনোয়ার) (born 1 September 1935) is a renown Bangladesh artist, who was awarded the highest state award of Bangladesh, the Ekushey Padakin 2004.^[1] He is a painter, sculptor, radio performer and professor of fine arts. He is currently the chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy.

Early life

Mustafa Manwar is the son of poet Golam Mostofa. He passed his matriculation exam from Narayanganj Government High School. He was initially admitted to the Scottish Church College of the University of Calcutta where he studied science. However, he later changed stream and following the advice of the famous author Syed Mujtaba Ali, transferred to the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, from where he graduated obtaining best result in his class.

Personal life and later career

He married Merry Manwar in 1965. Manwar started his career as lecturer at the former East Pakistan Art College. Later, he joined Bangladesh Television as director general. Later he would also serve as the director general of the Shilpakala Academy and the National Media Institute. He would also serve as a managing director of the FDC.^[2]
