For the multimedia-ripping software, see MusicMatch.
MusiXmatch is a music-related startup with the stated goal to build the largest licensed lyrics database in the industry, including a series of other song-related metadata, including artist biographies, genres, discographies and cover art. Their API-enabled feed is available to website owners, mobile application developers and all other parties that want to display legal lyrics and monetize them via advertising.
MusiXmatch's searchable database contains only those lyrics and metadata that have been fully licensed for display by all the rightsholders for each individual song.

History
MusiXmatch was founded in Bologna, Italy on January 21, 2010 by Massimo Ciociola and a group of co-founders. In July 2010 the website went public and the service went live. MusiXmatch has raised Euro 700K in angel funding as of July 2010.
Goals
The universe of music-related metadata, including lyrics, is fragmented, chaotic and characterized by unlicensed content. The MusiXmatch service is attempting to bridge the gap between artists and songwriters that would like to distribute and monetize their lyrics and website owners, publishers and application developers that would like a reliable source of lyrics and metadata to display to their users, including a legal way to participate in revenue sharing.
How it Works
MusiXmatch has developed the LyrixAPI by which subscribers can search and receive lyrics and metadata from a database of 4 million songs (as of July 2010).
Revenue Model
Contextual advertising, affiliation partnerships and revenue sharing will serve to monetize the lyric views.
