- Tasmania University Union
The Tasmania University Union Inc (TUU) is the
students' union that represents tertiary students attending theUniversity of Tasmania . Until 2007, it repreesented students only at the southern campus but with the cesation of theStudent Association due toVoluntary Student Unionism it now encompasses the entire university. The TUU holds annual elections from which members are elected to positions within the Union, with positions in both the north and the south. The TUU is affiliated with the National Union of Students (NUS) and with theCouncil of Australian Postgraduate Associations .The TUU was heavily involved in the successful campaign to defeat Commonwealth Voluntary Student Unionism proposals in 1999. However, VSU legislation was later passed by the Australian Parliament in 2005, which saw the end of the Student Association and the TUU encompassing all University of Tasmania students.
The TUU is jointly governed by a Student Representative Council and a Board of Management.
