Murder (Peruvian law)

Murder in Peru is classified into 4 major categories:

  • First-Degree Murder with Special Circumstances is murder committed with aggravating circumstances, murder of special persons, or multiple murders and is punishable with a mandatory life sentence.
  • First-Degree Murder with No Special Circumstances is premeditated murder and is punishable with between 25 years and 99 years in prison.
  • Second-Degree Murder is non-premeditated intentional murder and is punishable with between 10 years and 99 years in prison.
  • Third-Degree Murder is any form of voluntary or involuntary homicide, manslaughter, etc. and is punishable with between 7 and 25 years in prison.[1]
