Mountain Trade and Development Bank (MTDB), is a commercial bank in South Sudan. It is one of the commercial banks licensed by the Bank of South Sudan, the national banking regulator.[1]
History
Mountain Trade and Development Bank was founded in August 2010, five and one years after the cessation of hostilities between South Sudan and Sudan and the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in Naivasha, Kenya. With headquarters in the capital city of Juba, the bank has plans to expand to other South Sudanese states.[2]
Overview
The bank is a small financial services provider. It is one of eight (8) banks, providing commercial banking serices in South Sudan at the time if independence in July 2011.
Ownership
MTDB is a privately held financial institution. South Sudanese media reports suggest the bank was founded by wealthy individuals from the Nuba Mountains, in Southern Kordofan State.[3] The detailed shareholding in the stock of the bank is not publicly known at this time.
Branch Network
As of July 2011[update], Mountain Trade & Development Bank maintains its headquarters in Juba, the capital of South Sudan and that country's largest city. There are no other known branches of the bank bank at this time.
