Mount Misery (New Jersey)

Mount Misery (officially the Pinelands Center at Mount Misery) is the name of a methodist retreat center and campground in Browns Mills, New Jersey. It is located on 150 acres of Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, within the New Jersey Pinelands. The retreat center is located on a narrow dirt road known as "Mount Misery Road" beginning at Route 70 and heading southeast, ending at Savoy Boulevard in Manchester Township. The Mount Misery Brook flows through this area.

Educational aspect

Some school districts in New Jersey (including Harrison Township School District and Quinton Township School District) provide field trips for students to visit Mount Misery for about one week. The Cherry Hill School District offers a program known as the Cherry Hill Environment Residency Program, which is a comprehensive on-site ecological experience for students in sixth grade. While at Mt. Misery, students learn about the conditions that influence their environment and the development of living organisms.[1] At the same time, they experience camping and spending the night in their assigned cabins. The program does not involve any religious content.
