Bosch was born in
Cologne onAugust 27 ,1874 . He studied at the Technical College ofCharlottenburg (today theTechnical University of Berlin ) and theUniversity of Leipzig from 1892-1898. In 1899 he started to work atBASF . From 1908 until 1913 developed theHaber-Bosch process together withFritz Haber . AfterWorld War I he was working on petrol andmethanol synthesis viahigh pressure chemistry . In 1925 Bosch was one of the founders ofIG Farben and from 1935 chairman of the board of directors. He received theSiemens-Ring in 1924 for his own contributions to applied research and his patronate support to basic research. In 1931 he was awarded theNobel Prize in Chemistry together withFriedrich Bergius for the introduction of high pressure chemistry. He died inHeidelberg .He was also an amateur astronomer and the
asteroid 7414 Bosch was named in his honour [http://www.kleinplanetenseite.de/Versch/kphimmel.htm †] .Carl Bosch collected meteorites which were brought to
Yale University in 1949. [cite journal
