The surname Montford is derived from the Norman times and has its connections with a Hamlet of the same name in Brittany France[citation needed].

The family name of Montford settled within the regions of Shropshire and can still be found in Market Drayton and Whitchurch.

Montford's of Market Drayton were a well known family of cabinet makers,and at one time in the late 19th century there were at least five members of this family employed in the business as skilled cabinet makers one family member Henry being a master cabinet maker. The business was located in St Marys Street Market Drayton and a total of five addresses in this street were inhabited by the family.
