Moni Bhattacharjee (Hindi: मोनी भट्टाचार्य) was an Indian film director and screenwriter of late nineties who directed few known and popular Hindi movies. Starting as an assistant to Bimal Roy in many of classics in 1950s, he went on to direct numerous films, and is most known for the Sunil Dutt and Waheeda Rehman, starred dacoit film, Mujhe Jeene Do (1963),[1] which was the Official selection at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival [2] and nominated for the Palme d'Or.[3]
After the hit Madhumati (1958), Bimal Roy asked Moni, then his assistant, to direct, Usne Kaha Tha, which he produced under Bimal Roy Productions label, thus starting his career as a full fledged director.[4]
