Mohammad-Hassan Malekmadani

Mohammad-Hassan Malekmadani

Mohammad Hasan Malekmadani was elected as Tehran's mayor in 2002 by the second council of Tehran. He was preceded as mayor of Tehran by Morteza Alviri and succeeded by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2003. Malekmadani was sentenced to a 5-month prison term in 2003 by a Tehran court with charges dealing with bureaucrats. In 2004, an arrest warrant was issued for him when he did not appear for a court appearance. He left Iran for the city of London in the United Kingdom in 2005 but came back to Iran shortly afterwards and is now living in Tehran. All charges against him were dropped.
