Mitre 10 is a major range of home improvement stores in New Zealand. It operates as an entirely separate company from the similarly named Australian chain, and is run as a co-operative, with all stores run by owner-operators.[1] The company operates over 100 stores throughout New Zealand

Mitre 10 New Zealand was established in June 1974 when a group of Kiwi hardware store retailers visited Australia and saw the co-operative model at work in Mitre 10 Australia. They gained agreement to create their own version of the model in New Zealand. Mitre 10 New Zealand has always been run as a separate company with separate ownership and management. The brand name was initially owned by a holding company with both Australian and New Zealand representation. In March 2010, when Mitre 10 Australia was bought by Metcash, Mitre 10 New Zealand gained the total ownership of the brand in New Zealand.[2]

Mitre 10 New Zealand Limited has won awards for excellence in marketing and retailing and been ranked among top international business performers.[citation needed] In 2008 Mitre 10 was named as the most trusted retail brand in New Zealand by Reader's Digest, and 20th most trusted brand overall.[3] Mitre 10 New Zealand Limited then won again in 2010 and 2011 as the Reader's Digest Most Trusted Brand - Home Improvements.[4]

MEGA Stores

MEGA Glenfield Dusk Wiki

Mitre 10 MEGA is Mitre 10's "big-box" chain, designed as a one-stop shop for major projects. It directly competes with such chains as Bunnings and The Warehouse. Mitre 10 Mega stores offer customers a larger product range than standard Mitre 10 stores including larger garden centres and drive-through facilities, as well as extra services such as cafes and children's play areas.[5] Mitre 10 MEGA stores are predominantly owner operated, however on occasion there is some funding support from the national body. As of 2011 there are 28 Mitre 10 MEGA stores in New Zealand.

Mitre 10 MEGA's advertising is spearheaded by a series of advertisements featuring "The Big Guy" (played by Levi Vaoga, a professional strongman and one of New Zealand's strongest men).[6]
