History
Miss Universo Italia was created in 2005. Before that, there was another pageant: The Miss for Miss World, but sometimes there was the winner of Miss Italia to represent Italy in the pageant of Miss World (from 1959 to 1962; in 1964; in 1971 and in 1978); when that pageant lost the franchise and was discontinued, was created the Miss Mondo Italia competition and Sofia Bruscoli had already won the right to represent Italy that year. Sofia placed among the Top 5 of Miss World 2005. Before her, the last Italian delegates to advance to the Miss World semifinals were Suzanne Zuber in the top 20 of Miss World 2002 and Giorgia Palmas in 2000, who placed as 1st Runner Up, the Italy's highest result. The last Miss Mondo Italia who placed in Miss World was Giada Pezzaioli, among the Top 7 of Miss World 2010. The current Miss Mondo Italia is Tania Bambaci, who will compete in Miss World 2011 in London, on 6th November.
